The best time to start the recruiting process is early in high school—ideally freshman or sophomore year. Even though coaches at Division I and II schools can’t contact you directly until June 15 after your sophomore year, you can still:
Build your highlight video
Start researching colleges
Create your recruiting profile
Attend ID camps and showcases
Reach out with introduction emails
Starting early gives you time to grow, get noticed, and build relationships with coaches before key deadlines hit during junior and senior year.
For NCAA Division I men’s and women’s soccer, college coaches can begin actively recruiting players starting June 15 after a player’s sophomore year of high school. This is when they can make verbal offers, send emails, texts, and phone calls, and start official visits and off-campus contact.
NCAA Division II: Coaches can also begin contact June 15 after sophomore year
NCAA Division III, NAIA, NJCAA: These schools have more flexible rules and can start contact earlier, but it’s still smart to begin the process sophomore year
Absolutely. The college recruiting process isn’t just about Division I—there are hundreds of incredible programs at the Division II, Division III, NAIA, and junior college levels that offer competitive soccer and strong academics.
